I went quite hard on the finish with this one. I wanted the surface to look like exposed, battered metal, so I kept knocking it back with dark washes, grime and scuffing until it felt properly used.
The main finish is metallic silver with much darker gunmetal and black sections, then blue and gold worked into selected panels to break the whole thing up. I deliberately varied the silver across the hull as well. Some areas are cleaner and brighter, others are dirtier and almost burnt-looking, especially around the engines and weapons.
I added a LED light kit which really helps bring the mechanical detailing to life.
I also added three extra guns to the gunship because I wanted it to feel heavier and more aggressive than the original. They change the silhouette nicely and give it much more of that armed gunship presence.
The decals and small markings were kept fairly restrained. I didn’t want it covered in graphics, just enough to make it feel like a real machine with a history behind it.
It’s a big, heavy-looking gunship and that was really the aim with the whole repaint: something old, mechanical and battle-used rather than a brightly coloured toy.
Figures and display base are not included.
