I wanted this one to feel like something Cobra might actually have commissioned for a serious assault rather than a clean factory-fresh aircraft.
I stripped the look right back and rebuilt it around a dark gunmetal finish with blue armour sections, then worked over the entire craft with washes, scuffs, worn edges, grime and metallic highlights. I’ve deliberately let some areas stay darker and dirtier than others so it feels used rather than uniformly weathered.
The engines, weapons, vents and mechanical sections have all had extra attention, with the wear built up gradually rather than just added at the end. There are little changes in tone across the panels, exposed metal around the edges and dirt worked into the recesses, which really comes through when you see it in person.
Both side sections open, the interior is detailed, and the lighting gives the cockpit and troop areas a completely different atmosphere once it gets darker. I particularly like the contrast between the cold blue armour and the warmer light inside.
It is a big piece, and that was part of the idea. I wanted something that could sit in the middle of a GI Joe or Cobra collection and make the figures around it feel as though they belong to a much larger world.
Figures are shown for scale only and are not included.
