Star Wars Clone Wars 501st Custom Republic Gunship Vintage Collectible

Blue squadron markings run across the battered armour of this custom Star Wars Republic Gunship, giving it a 501st Legion identity. I pictured it dropping clone troopers into a contested landing zone, with the side guns covering their exit.

The contrast between the blue and worn metal was the focus of my paintwork. I’ve placed the colour across the cockpit surround, hull panels and fins, then worked darker washes into the joins to give each section definition. Scratches and metallic edge wear break up the armour without losing those blue markings.

Around the engines and weapon mounts, I’ve picked out the pipes, vents and raised fittings individually. The darker mechanical sections give the hull depth, while the lighter panels show the grime and scuffs more clearly. That balance takes careful work: too much weathering would swallow the smaller details.

The opening side doors reveal the troop compartment and give you room to arrange boarding or deployment scenes. I’ve carried the finish around the entrances and lower hull so those areas sit naturally with the rest of the craft.

For this piece, I wanted the blue to connect it immediately to the 501st, with the wear suggesting a gunship that has stayed in service through a long Clone Wars campaign.
